A prototype Belstaff crew jacket and hand-painted costume designs from the production of Steven Spielberg's sci-fi thriller War of the Worlds. This unique jacket was a prototype for a potential limited edition promotional run of jackets to coincide with the release of the film, but was abandoned due to cost. The jacket (size "44") is similar in design to the one Ray (Tom Cruise) wears in the film, but it has been altered, with "War of the Worlds" cut out of the leather down the left arm. It is intentionally distressed with scuffing and scratches and retains its original tags, plus a metal dog tag which reads "Limited Edition Hero Jack Designed by Joanna Johnston".

The jacket is accompanied by three designs for the crew jacket. One is rendered in pencil on tracing paper and two are hand painted in gouache. The painted designs have "War of the Worlds - Possible 'Ray' Jacket For Manufacture" painted underneath them and all three designs are stamped with "Designed by Joanna Johnston".

The jacket has some wear from age and the designs have very minor creasing. This lot comes with a letter of authenticity from from a senior crew member. Dimensions (painted designs): 25.5 cm x 35.5 cm (9 3/4" x 14"); (pencil design) 21.5 cm x 28 cm (8 1/2" x 11")
