WALKER, JOHN G.
(1822 - 1893) Confederate major general who led a division at Harpers Ferry and Antietam, later serving in the Trans-Mississippi and in New Mexico. Lengthy A.E.S., 1p. 4to., Fort Black, Tx., July 16, 1856, on the verso of an A.L.S. from future Confederate Major General W. E. ""GRUMBLE"" JONES, 1p. 4to., Fort Black, Tx., July 16, 1856 complaining about the size and quality of some beef cattle. Walker's endorsement reads in full: ""approved & respectfully forwarded In addition I would remark in consequence of the rocky nature of much of the road over which we will travel & the great scarcity of water I feel certain that the cattle alluded to will soon become so much exhausted as to make it necessary to abandon them or they will greatly impede the movement of my command Respectfully J. G. Walker Capt. RMR"". Also bears an A.E.S. at top signed by WILLIAM E. ""GRUMBLE"" JONES. Very good.
