WALDECK-PYRMONT: Georg II, 1813-1845, AE 3 pfennig, 1819, KM-96a, J-7, scheide münze, a lovely lustrous chocolate brown mint state example! PCGS graded MS63 BN, ex Joe Sedillot Collection. Waldeck-Pyrmont was a sovereign state within the newly formed German Confederation, a loose association of German states created after the fall of Napoleon. While small, it maintained its own administration, court, and military (on a very limited scale). The principality was focused on rebuilding and reorganizing after the disruptions of the Napoleonic Wars. Like other German states, it was governed under a restored monarchical system and maintained a conservative stance under Metternich’s influence (Austria’s powerful chancellor). In 1819, the Carlsbad Decrees were issued by the German Confederation to suppress liberal and nationalist ideas specifically affecting universities and press freedoms.
