<b>1002. JONATHAN M. WAINWRIGHT </b>(1883 - 1953) "Skinny", American general who defended Bataan and Coregidor after MacArthur's withdrawal early in World War II. A nice grouping of Wainwright material, includes a fine vintage I.S.P. 8" x 10" b/w, showing "Skinny" in his younger years seated in a chair in uniform. Inscribed at bottom margin: "<i>To Helen and Milton Boone, with love. J. Mayhew Wainwright</i>". Trimmed slightly at bottom, else very good. Along with a three vintage press photos 8" x 10"b/w, each, showing a rather wan looking Wainwright arriving in the U.S. immediately following the War, walking through a crowd with his sister; Wainwright seated in Omar Khayyam's with his sister and Helen Boone, wife of Gen. Milton Boone, speaking with the owner George Mardikian; and Wainwright in uniform in later years standing on a tarmac in front of the plane named "Bataan Avenger".
