Confederate lieutenant general, one of only three civilians without formal military training to attain that rank. Reputed to be the largest landowner in the South in 1861, he raised and equipped in part Hampton’s South Carolina Legion. Wounded at Fair Oaks and three times at Gettysburg, he commanded a cavalry brigade under J.E.B. Stuart, becoming the commander on Stuart’s death at Yellow Tavern. Bold, clear signature on 3½"x2" card. Fine example with brief printed biography.</span></p>

1. Auction Catalogue No. 19 is a Mail, Fax, Phone, Email and
Internet Live Bid Auction and is conducted under the laws of the State
of West Virginia by Gil Griggs, Licensee of Charleston, W. V. License
No. 002.
2. Absentee bid closing date is April 5th, 2002, 10:00 PM EST.
3. There is a 15% Buyer’s Premium charged on the final hammer price
of each lot. An additional 2½% Premium will be added to any lots
purchased through ebayliveauctions.com.
4. The Auctioneer reserves the right to reject any bid for any
reason.

6. In the event of duplicate high bids, the earliest bid received
will be the winner.

to Signature House. Payment must be made in U.S. funds. Wire transfer
details are available upon request. West Virginia residents will pay a
sales tax of 6% unless a resale number is filed with us prior to the closing date. For sales outside of the USA a
credit card is requested.
