<B>WILLIAM WALLACE DENSLOW</B></I> (American 1856 - 1915) <BR><I>Untitled,</B></I> 1904 <BR>Ink on paper <BR>6-1/4 x 11-1/2in. <BR>Not signed <BR>Original <I>The Scarecrow and Tin-Man in Yucatan</B></I> newspaper story illustration <BR>This piece is reproduced on page 92 of the reprint book, <I>The Scarecrow and Tin-Man of Oz,</B></I> by W. W. Denslow, Hungry Tiger Press, 2006 <BR><BR>After the publication of author L. Frank Baum's <I>The Wonderful Wizard of Oz</B></I> in 1900, the two famous creators had a falling out. Thanks to an unusual dual ownership of the full copyright, each man produced his own series of newspaper stories in late 1904. The McClure Syndicate ran Denslow's series, <I>The Scarecrow and the Tin-Man,</B></I> and the series ran for fourteen weeks.
