lot of 4 cabinet-sized views on yellow mounts, from the Department of the Interior's U.S. Geological Survey of the Territories; Thomas Moran is dwarfed in each photograph by the overpowering landscape. Titles include No. 572 Upper Basins; No. 595 Arched Falls, Middle Creek; No. 610 Shadow Lake on the Yellowstone divide; AND Mammoth Hot Springs, Upper Basin.

In 1871 Thomas Moran (1837-1926) joined the Hayden Expedition and along side Jackson, captured Yellowstone in color. When he returned, Moran finished a painting entitled "The Grand Canyon of Yellowstone" which became the first American landscape purchased by the U.S. government.
