W. F. P. Napier: History of the War Peninsula
W. F. P. Napier: History of the War in the Peninsula and in the South of France, from the Year 1807 to the Year 1814 (London: Thomas and William Boone, 1832-40), second edition, in six volumes, gilt top edges, marbled endpapers, illustrations, maps, half-red-leather binding with gold lettering and decorations, marbled boards, 8vo (5.5” x 8.75”). General Sir William Francis Patrick Napier (1785-1860) is still considered a peerless writer of British military history. At first hesitant to write History of the War in the Peninsula, Napier received ample support from the Duke of Wellington, who handed him the correspondence of Napoleon’s older brother, Joseph Bonaparte, which had been taken at the Battle of Vittoria. By the time the final volume of his History was published in 1840, Napier was famous throughout Western Europe. A bookplate has been attached on the inside front cover of each volume. The books are in good condition with moderate wear on the bindings, soiling, and moderate acidification in the paper.

Shipping: Books & Catalogs (view shipping information)
