W.C. Scott & Son premier grade 10ga back-action sidelock shotgun, with patent crystal indicators (cocking indicators), finely engraved brown and case hardened finish, select checkered wood stocks in original luggage case showing “William Reid & Sons” dealer’s label in lid, “13 Fenaul Hall Square, Boston” address. Label advertises “Ordinance, muskets, cutlasses, pistols, Colt revolvers, hazard’s, gunpowder, James Dixon & Sons flask and pouches and shows a scene of bird hunters.” Serial number “29426”. The gun shows 30” barrels and remains in fine to near excellent original condition showing approx. 90-95% original brown finish on barrel, just thinning at the edges, but still excellent patterning and just normal type aging. The action shows 90-95% original case hardening, just thinning slightly at the front and edges, with beautiful and bright rainbow views. The stocks are near fine with some minor scratches, storage marks, etc. The trigger guard shows 90% original bright blue. The interior is excellent, the bores are bright, and the gun has seen little use and well cared for. The engraving is of exceptionally high quality with beautiful scenes of water fowl surrounded by a bank note scroll. The gun also has its original butt and is full length. The interior of the case shows a full complement of accessories and cleaning items, many of which are in their original wrappers. The interior of the case is good with some mothing, slight damage from carry, loosening of partitions, small repairs, a couple end flaps are becoming loose, but at least good overall. The label is fine to excellent. Also two original pattern targets of paper serial numbered to the gun are included. The leather exterior of the luggage case shows one end-flap becoming unstitched, the handle is missing, and other small distresses from age including straps missing. The condition is fair to good and needs careful restoration. Probably the best 10ga premier extant and it is incredible to find the pattern targets with the gun. Est.: $6,000-$12,000
