DS, three pages on two adjoining sheets, 8.5 x 14, December 28, 1939. Contract between publisher Dodd, Mead & Company of New York and W. C. Fields of Hollywood to publish “A Collection of Humorous Articles (To consist of approximately 20,000 words),” which would be published in 1940 as W. C. Fields For President. Fields agrees to deliver the complete manuscript to Dodd, Mead on or before February 1, 1940. By this contract, he would be paid a royalty of 10% of the published retail price of the regular edition for the first 10,000 copies sold and 12.5% thereafter. Neatly signed on the bottom of the third page by Fields. In fine condition, with a few light creases and some light handling wear. The lesser-seen side of Fields: author!
