Framed 18th-century hand-colored engraving titled Vue de Boston, depicting a lively colonial street scene outside the Old South Church of the Presbyterians in Boston. This is a classic example of a vue d'optique, an optical print designed for viewing through a zograscope or mirrored device-evident in the reversed title text at the top, which would appear correctly when reflected. The multilingual caption below reads: "Prospect of the great Square against the old South Church of the Presbyterians at Boston." These types of engravings were popular in 18th-century Europe for bringing New World views to life with enhanced depth and perspective. Toning, foxing, and wear are consistent with age. Housed in a distressed black wooden frame with paper backing.

Issued: 18th century
Dimensions: 12.75"L x 10"H

Condition: Age related wear.
