For your consideration is this 2 volume set by Aubrey L. Haines titled, "The Yellowstone Story". Aubrey Leon Haines was born at Portland, Oregon, August 30, 1914, the son of Albert S. and Doris E. Haines. Following graduation with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Forestry in 1938, he was employed as a park ranger in Yellowstone National Park until furloughed for military service in June 1941. After four years of service with the Army Corps of Engineers, he returned to has former position in Yellowstone Park, and was promoted to assistant park engineer in 1946. In 1960 he was promoted to the new position of park historian. He served as park historian until retirement late in 1969. The Yellowstone Story traces the history of the Yellowstone region from the time when hunters and gatherers migrated into the Rocky Mountains thousands of years ago to the post-World War II era when tourists began inundating Yellowstone National Park. Volume I takes the account from prehistoric times through the mid-1880s, with emphasis on the park's exploration and its trouble-filled early years under federal management. Volume II covers the years of military administration of the park and the more recent developments under the National Park Service. The books feature a soft paper cover with an image of Yellowstone, the title, the author and volume number on the front. The books were published and copy-righted in 1977 by the Yellowstone Library and Museum Association. The books are in good condition with no signs of obvious damage. The interior pages are in good condition as well with no tears. The books measure 9" L x 6" W x 1" D.
