Lantern stands 10.5” tall, without bail. “The Adams & Westlake Company-Chicago-” is embossed around the outer rim of the lid’s ventilator top, surrounding a “The “Adams” embossing. Along the outermost rim of the lid is embossed “Pat. June.8.&29. 1886. Nov. 30. 86. Dec. 18. 88. June. 15. 89. Sep’t. 24. 89. Aug. 16. 92. Sep’t. 21. 97. Nov. 30. 97”. The lid is also hand embossed “V & T. R.R” The twist-on pot and burner are missing. Steel slat cage. The lantern comes with a 5 3/8" tall Corning red globe with “V&T. R.R” hand engraved in script lettering that matches the hand in lot #59660. The bottom of the globe is chipped in several places, and the top bears one large interior chip and multiple small chips along the rim. Significant rusting throughout frame and bail. The Virginia & Truckee Railroad was chartered 11 Feb 1869, opened 1 Jan 1870, and then sold to the Virginia & Truckee Railway in 1905 [Ref: Poor’s Manual of Railroads, 1915, p. 527]. - Jacobitz Collection -59661
