Young girl who inspired the “Is There a Santa Claus?” editorial appearing in the September 21, 1897, edition of the New York Sun. The editorial, which included the famous reply "Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus,” has become an indelible part of popular Christmas lore in the United States and Canada. Color magazine page, 8.5 x 11.5, bearing the first page of an article about O’Hanlon and her famous letter to the New York Sun, signed in the lower left corner in black ink, “Virginia O’Hanlon Douglas 1961.” In very good condition, with scattered creases, edge tears, and a couple small separations along horizontal mailing folds.
