Virginia Manufactory 2nd model flintlock rifle dated 1820 on rear of lock in .50 caliber, full stocked with brass mounts showing “VIRGINIA” stamped at the center portion of the lock. Refer Flayderman 9B-018. This rifle remains in originalgood condition showing a dark brown to gray patina finish with some scattered light to moderate erosion and pinprick pitting. There is some slightly heavier pitting around the touch hole and firing areas. The frizzen shows period and oldresurfacing and the lock is in its original flintlock configuration with correct small parts excepting the frizzen spring and screw which are older restorations. The stock is in good condition and would be very good other than losses along the top of the forend on the left side where slivers of wood are missing and extending 19” back from the muzzle along the top edge. There are also many small losses of wood along the top edge on the right side of stock which are all very restorable. The brass mounts show some cleaning long ago and now are aging back. These Virginia rifles are very rare with only 1700 being produced and this is an above average example. Note we could not find another reference of one being
