This grand Mahogany dining room table breaks down into three
different tables, commonly called a Virginia Mahogany Banquet
End Dining Table. Being one of the earliest Southern tables, it is
made of very large boards from the same Mahogany tree
imported to the coast of Virginia. The secondary wood is made
of full timbered Walnut. (See image) We are not sure where this
table was made, but we do know that the cabinetmaker knew
what he was doing. The banquet ends drop down making a
narrow table, easy to put away. Also this drop eliminates the
apron on the ends. (more seating)The string inlays are 95%.
There have been some replacements but very few. Old finish,
good working order, with early ink stains in two spots on the
top. This table has a little local history, an interesting story.<p>
