Lot of 3 different. James G. Fair and John Mackay were two of the most important mining figures on the Comstock, part of the "Bonanza Firm" which made millions with the Big Bonanza discovery of 1873 and many other investments. 1) 1870 Trench Mill check issued to Geo. Miller for $25. Signed by Mackay. Orange NV 2 cent and US IR stamp on left edge. 2) Different Trench Mill check, 1871, issued to Gillig Mott & Co. Also signed by Mackay. Gillig was a hardware store that made the famous "Grant Lanterns". RN-C and orange NV adhesive revenue stamp. Soiling on left side. 3) Rare Occidental Mill check with RN-C21b imprinted revenue. Issued in 1872 to the Virginia & Truckee Railroad. Signed by Fair.
