<table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="4"><tr><td><em> Very old!</em></td></tr><tr> <td width="100%"> This is a very old religious painting on wood panel of the Virgin Mary and St. John Apostle at the Cross. It was purchased in the 70's at an estate auction. It is painted in the style known as Mannerism--a period of stylized work and elongated figures--which gained popularity in the mid to late 16th Century. This painting is very similar in style and coloring to some of El Greco paintings. It has a hand-written text in the back which we haven't been able to decipher. The fact that the Cross is vacant may symbolize the Resurrection--the Cross may be empty of Jesus' body but it is full of hope and of God's promises. The Virgin Mary has a very expressive face with detailed tears coming out of her eyes. This painting needs a professional restoration. The wood has tiny holes and a corner worn away over time. It has a very attractive, old wood frame. It has the initials "VW" on the back of the frame. Please ask questions, request photos and shipping costs prior to bidding. <p>Measurements: Panel:18 1/4" by 12 1/2": Frame: 21" by 15 1/4." </td></tr><tr> <td> </td></tr><tr> <td>Reference #: 029</td></tr><tr><td>Condition:See Description</td></tr><tr><td>Year:See Description</td></tr><tr><td>Maker:Unknown</td></tr><tr><td>Height:18.25</td></tr><tr><td>Width:12.50</td></tr><tr><td>Title:Virgin Mary and St. John Apostle</td></tr><tr><td>Style:Mannerism</td></tr><tr><td>Materials:Oil on Wood</td></tr><tr><td>Location:Santiago, Chile</td></tr></table>
