Important American composer (1896–1989) best known for his two operas written with Gertrude Stein. Thomson was also the only composer ever to receive the Pulitzer Prize in Music for a film score (Louisiana Story, 1948). AMQS on a 9 x 12 sheet of musically lined paper. Thomson pens nine bars of music from “Bugles and Birds: A Portrait of Pablo Picasso,” noting at the end of the quote, “the birds came later.” Signed and inscribed under the quote, “Greetings to Daniel Montenarano, Jr., Virgil Thomson, Easter Monday 1971.” In fine condition, with two horizontal folds.
