Important American composer (1896–1989) best known for his two operas written with Gertrude Stein. Thomson was also the only composer ever to receive the Pulitzer Prize in Music for a film score (Louisiana Story, 1948). Typed manuscript, 12 pages, 8.5 x 11, entitled “The State of Music: A 1961 Preface,” nicely signed on the last page in black ink by Thomson. Interesting content regarding his historic 1939 book The State of Music. In fine condition, with bisecting horizontal fold, and a few light creases. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
