Vintage silent film projector
Dating from 1909, this handcranked theater projector is a relic from the very earliest, exciting days of m0tion pictures, when stars such as Mabel Normand and Mary Pickford made their names under the direction of Hollywood legend D.W. Griffith. The projector consists of two large reel housings, lens, slide bar and electrified light housing, all mounted to a wooden base, which is supported by four telescopic legs (not the originals). The hand-crank still exhibits smooth operation, and the electrified light source, while not presently working, has the three original adjustable knobs on the back to control the electrode gap and regulate the intensity of light. Certainly, films from early production companies such as Biograph and Vitagraph would have been broadcast on this projector! A museum-quality piece of film history, it remains in very good condition considering its age.
