This is a FAUX scrimshaw piece, made of resin. This is NOT ivory or bone. Wonderful Barlow FAUX Scrimshaw Plaque of the USS Constitution "Old Ironsides" under full sail.

Signed by the artist . Mounted on BLACK VELVet in a shadowbox with oak wood frame. READY TO HANG Plaque size is 3" x 2" Framed size is 7 " x 9 This ship is not labeled, but the sail arrangement, livery and stern shape strongly support the identification. The frigate USS Constitution, the world's oldest commissioned naval ship afloat, was launched in 1797, and named by President George Washington. Here, Old Ironsides sails free on a calm sea with all sails pulling. The artist has included a clever guarantee that the piece cannot be sold as original 19th century scrimshaw to the observant buyer. if you look quickly at the plaque, all you will see is an 18th century sailing vessel on the sea.
Very nice vintage. Scrimshaw is mounted and framed, shows no wear, scratches repairs or issues. Oak wood frame has some wear and a few small nicks as shown. A lovely piece of nautical memorabilia on an intimate
