Vintage Pre-WW2 Dr Lili Bleer Binoculars - C/w Original Leather Case. Made in Holland
The history of the maker Lili Bleeker is a fascinating one and well worth investigating
- She was a very brave woman.
Caroline Emilie "Lili" Bleeker (17 January 1897 – 8 November 1985) was a Dutch
entrepreneur and physicist from Middelburg known for her designs and the
manufacturing of optical instruments. In the era she grew up, it was the norm for
women to become housewives whose chief roles were to perform domestic duties,
but Bleeker did not want to conform to these standards.
She wanted to pursue an education, and never married her life-long partner, Gerard
Willemse, which was quite anomalous at the time.
She would later emerge as one of the first women in the Netherlands to become a
doctor in physics and mathematics..
Bleeker's firm took a huge hit due to the effects of the Second World War. Sales
plummeted, she had to fire some of her employees and pay the ones who remained
out of her own pocket.
Bleeker, along with her partner Willemse, had to go into hiding due to her actions in
successfully eluding Jews from the German Officers when they invaded her factory
She re-emerged her firm after the end of the war. Because of her actions in the war,
Bleeker was awarded the Royal Distinction by the Dutch army, and was later
granted a recovery loan by the government to open up a new factory in Zeist.
Her company manufactured the optical instruments required for the development of
the phase contrast microscope, which was invented by Frits Zernike who received
the Nobel prize in 1953 for this invention, and held his patents on the design..
She also made binoculars for the Dutch Army - This is one of those pre WW2
binoculars - a 6 x 24 mde in Zeist.
Condition is very good - glass is clear and they operate the way they should.
The case has seen some duty and it is worn with some stiching comomg loose
around the zipper. Zipper still works great.
There is some paint loss to the edges but other tha that they are in fine condition.

When shipping is required for any purchase an additional charge will occur the day the item has been shipped. We ship mainly at cost via Canada Post. We aim to have ALL items out the door within 15 business days after auction close.
Please note that due to restrictions we will ship all Ammunition by courier Canada wide - No ammo can be shipped outside of Canada.. WE SHIP AMMO ONLY VIA UPS OR PUROLATOR.... We cannot ship ammunition to a PO BOX - Please note that if we cannot ship to your address the item is forfeited and NO REFUND will be given..
We are NOT responsible for damage during shipping. We don't guarantee delivery times and will not refund shipping charges for parcels that are not delivered by a specific date.
Items over $200 will be insured and a signature 18+ is required (unless under $200 or going by letter mail).
NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN ON LOTS THAT WE ARE UNABLE TO SHIP TO YOU.
Shipping charges will be determined after preparation as we need to pack, weigh and measure each box. Your credit card will be charged this amount before the parcel leaves.

TERMS OF PAYMENT: At the conclusion of the Auction all items purchased will be charged to the Credit Card that was provided at registration to guarantee payment. If shipping is required for any purchase an additional charge will occur the day the item has been shipped. A $40.00 late payer fee may be added to any invoice that can't be processed at the conclusion of the sale. Please ensure that you have provided us with the correct number and expiry date. Recurring problem payers will be banned from future sales. Bidders are responsible for full payment of all their purchases at the drop of the hammer. Our Consignors are paid based on the hammer price. We will attempt to charge your credit card partial amounts until the amount is paid in full. Any purchase which has not been fully paid will be resold at the next available opportunity. Our normal commission charge (14%) will apply on re-sale. Any balance remaining unpaid after the resale will be referred to our collection agency, and or small claims court.

No employee of KOS Auctions is authorized to make any representation or warranty, oral or written, with respect to any lot or item for sale other than the CEO.
KOS Auctions will not return or refund money if an item is not exactly in the same condition as listed in the online listing. All ratings in the online listing are subjective and are of visual opinion, no mechanical inspection is undertaken by KOS unless stated. Any concern on a listing must be addressed via email before the closing of the auction.
Any items that are purchased that we are not able to deliver will be sold at the next opportunity, regular commission charges apply to that secondary sale.
We require your full correct name and a mailing address for your items won. Customers who fail to do so, or who need the paperwork restarted due to an error on their part may be charged an administrative fee of $25.00 per lot. Note that any items that have been purchased but are deemed “not importable/exportable” will be sold at the next opportunity. Regular commission charges apply to that secondary sale.

The Purchaser expressly acknowledges and agrees that in no event shall KOS Auctions or its associcated companies be liable for any damages including without limitation any compensatory, incidental or consequential damages.
The absence of a condition statement does not imply that the lot is in perfect condition or completely free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of aging. If we sell firearms that have been previously de-activated by others, these may not meet current or exportable standards. Firearms de-activated by others may or may not have a “de-activation letter” available. We are not able to search for letters for firearms de-activated by others.
