DESCRIPTION:
Vintage Oil on Masonite Portrait of Spanish Bullfighter MATADOR 'MANOLETE' (Manuel Laureano Rodríguez Sánchez 1917-1947)
'THE MUSE' says:
This painting is most likely to be a portrait of Manuel Laureano Rodríguez Sánchez (4 July 1917 – 29 August 1947), better known as MANOLETE. Apparently MANOLETE was considered to be one of the best bull fighters ever - Unfortunately in 1947 he was fatally gored and killed in Linares, Spain by a bull called ISLERO from the MIURA breeders line. According to Wikipedia - In response to Manolete's death, General Francisco Franco then dictator of Spain, ordered three days of "national mourning", during which only funeral dirges were heard on the radio.
