Vintage Munising maple dough / salad bowl set, with 1 large bowl and 4 small bowls, circa 1940's - 1950's. The Munising Wood Products company produced wooden bowls from 1915 to 1955 in the town of Munising, in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The bowls are made of premium hardwood, usually maple, "for chopping or mixing". The bowls have a slightly oval shape. The large bowl in this set measures about 2 7/8 inches high, 11 3/8 inches wide, and 10 inches deep. The small bowls measure about 1 ¼ inches high, 7 ¼ inches wide, and 3 ¼ inches deep. Although the company went out of business in the fifties, the bowls live up to their advertising as "the finest kitchen woodenware"; "Munising bowls last a lifetime." (Please see the Alger County, Michigan website for more information about Munising wooden bowls.) The large bowl is in excellent condition, although it could use more oiling. The small bowls, which could also benefit from more oiling, are in very good condition, with the exception of 1 bowl that looks like it has a defect which has been filled in with wood filler. One of the bowls is made from birdseye maple. Please refer to the 4 photographs for appearance and condition. Shipping / packaging will be $15 - $20, depending upon the zip code of the buyer.
