So ugly he is cute! comes to mind when I first laid eyes on this Zapotec Indian Puppet from Oaxaca. But of course it is serious business to the Zapotecans. This is a Nahualt, or Shaman Puppett, used in the 1930's/40's to heal the sick. Most of the strings are gone, but the puppet is in good condition otherwise. No holes in the cloth, the paint is still good, and the yarn hair, fringe are still in good shape. This is the first one of these I have had, I am told that not a lot of them were made, or allowed to leave Mexico. the puppet measures 24 inches long, and 10 inches wide. Thanks for Shopping in the Land of Enchantment.
