Stunning vintage HOPI sterling silver Parrot brooch in wonderful vintage condition. The brooch features an intricately hand etched exotic parrot design in sterling silver accented with traditional tribal HOPI decor. The Hopi tribe (descendants of the Anasazi) still have a Parrot kachina among their divine spirits, and parrot imagery is common throughout Southwest Indian art. The Hopi see the parrot as a directional guardian, associated with the south, and some Pueblo tribes consider parrots a symbol of fertility.
The brooch is marked sterling and is stamped with artist hallmark and year 1989. Measurements" 2 1/2" long by 1" wide at the widest point.
