Dufrene, Maurice. Rayon des Soieries, 1930. 31 1/4 x 46.25 inches A founder member of the Societe des Artistes Decorateurs, Dufrene was among the group of French designers which became known as the Constructeurs, before WW1. In this opera, 2 young department store employees in the silk department, their bosses & their customers are involved in a lively mixture of love and intrigue. Dufrene designed this poster as well as the sets & costumes. Most of the design is black and white, but some of the lengths of fabric hanging from the figure's arm are tinged the most exquisitely pale shades of pink and green. Poster is in very good condition and mounted on period linen. There are a few miniscule spots of loss in the cream background at the end of the woman's sleeve, and another just above the printers name on the bottom left. (In mint condition this poster has brought in excess of $2500 at auction within the last few years.) Printer: Imp. Chaix, Paris
