Vintage Folk Art Strippy Quilt/Comforter. This is a fabulous piece of folk art in many respects. The pattern of the machine pieced top is called a ''Strippy'', comprised of pieces of depression era fabrics measuring 3''x7'' and arranged in a staggered pattern. The maker paid attention to the alternating fabric patterns and created a design and not a haphazard arrangement of materials. What makes it a true comforter is the fact that it is tied, securing the backing, the cotton batting and top with yarn or string. The interesting thing with this piece is the backing which is made up of potash or fertilizer gunny sacking material with patent dates imprinted on the material. The comforter measures 75'' x 84''. The edges have been basted and the piece not finished. It may have been used as is, either way it's a piece of folk art.
