Gorgeous old Japanese platter or charger, handmade and hand painted.

This is what is known as Japanese Imari, a style of porcelain ware known for its colorful, intricate and detailed decoration and masterful craftsmanship. It was most likely made during the late 1950s. Decorations are predominately in dark blue and red, with accents in pale blue, green, orange, and matte gold. The central illustration is of a stream winding through a garden, a common Japanese motif. Outer panels feature flowers and other garden-themed vignettes. The back is glazed in pale blue-grey, with darker blue ivy or floral decorations circling the outer rim. This is truly a wonderful piece of Japanese pottery, really more like a piece of history!

It's a large, heavy and substantial plate, measuring approximately 12" in diameter. and is in excellent condition, showing little wear on the front other than a few tiny marks and some moderate thinning of the gold color in places. No other damage or wear to note.

A stunning addition to any collection of Japanese or Asian pottery.
