Vincent T. Hamlin - Original Comic Strip Art for Alley Oop Daily dated 12-7-38 (NEA Service, Inc., 1938). One of the longest running strips still being published today, Alley Oop is the story of a caveman. Not just any caveman, mind you, but one that's just as likely to have adventures in Ancient Egypt, Medieval Europe, Twentieth Century America, or the far future, as he is to be found in prehistoric times. The creation of Vincent T. Hamlin, Alley first appeared in a handful of newspapers in 1932 before the syndicate handling him went bust. Picked up by NEA, Alley got his official start on August 7, 1933, and he's been going strong ever since. Prior to the introduction of time travel into the strip in 1939, all of Alley's adventures took place in the Stone Age, and it's these strips that are considered the most desirable by collectors. Making this particular strip even more attractive is the fact that it includes a real dinosaur, as well as Alley and his pal Foozy. Measuring approximately 21" x 5.25" overall, and in excellent condition, there are several pencil notations in the upper margin, including the date and the words "Bad News for Kakky," presumably in Hamlin's own hand. The strip is signed by the artist in the last panel. Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the eBay bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we have made it a policy that floor bids are always considered first over tie eBay live bids. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
