Literature: Matia Diaz Padron, Museo del Prado, Madrid, in "Nuevas pinturas de Vincente Sellaer identificadas en el Museo de Bellas Artes de Sevilla y Colleciones Madrilenas", in: "Archivo Espanol de Arte, Madrid,1981, 215, p.364 and. fig.3 (as autograph work Vincent Sellaer). Vincent Sellaer belongs to the generation of Frans Floris and to the early, Leonardesque phase of Dutch Mannerism, epitomised by Jan and Quentin Massys in Antwerp. His oeuvre combines Lombard with Raphaelite and Florentine elements, and as such points the way towards the subsequent phase of Dutch Mannerism. It is likely that Sellaer also spent some time in Italy.
