Vietnam War Archive of Thomas J. Corcoran. Thoma
Vietnam War Archive of Thomas J. Corcoran. Thomas J. Corcoran was a career foreign service officer and American advisor in Vietnam. This collection spans from 1942 through the 1970s. Of special interest are the photographs he took and collected during the early days of the Vietnam War. One set of photographs focuses on the violent protests in Hue in May 1966. The pictures show protestors gutting the United States Information Service Library, burning bookcases and throwing books and furniture out the windows as well as the destroyed American consulate, burned by the same protestors. Corcoran's collection is a historically significant visual record of foreign service in a turbulent Southeast Asia. The collection includes: 107 Vietnam photos; assorted printed materials (letters, poem, Vietnam money exchange certificate, etc); two booklets; telephone directory from the U.S. Embassy; American State Department Superior Honor Award certificate; Commendation certificate from the President of the Republic of Vietnam; Commendation from the President of the Republic of Vietnam honoring Corcoran as Consul of the United States at Hanoi; 80 photos in album of Cambodian temples, ruins, statues. A fantastic lot for those interested in this controversial foreign war. Approximately 200 items.
