Viennese Court Painter 17th cent. Portrait of Infante Philipp Prosper (Madrid 1657 - 1661) in courtly pose, oil on canvas, 122 x 91,5 cm, w/ frame, (Wo)€ 20.000 - 30.000 US $ 19.800 - 29.700 The Infante Philipp Prosper was the son of King Philipp IV. and his wife Maria Anna of Austria. The Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna, contains a portrait of the Infante Philipp Prosper by Velasquez, which Philipp IV presented to his Hapsburg cousins at the Vienna court in 1659. The above painting shows the little prince in a pose identical to that of the Velasquez painting and both feature toys attached to the infante's belt. Expert's Report: We would like to thank Ludwig Meyer of the Archiv für Kunstgeschichte for the identification of the sitter (information received verbally). Provenance: for the past 80 years in a private collection.
