Original desktop sealer for the Victorine at Kingston Nevada, in the Smoky Valley. This may be the single only district recorder seal for any Nevada mining district known today. District recorders were set up for remote mining districts in the early days when transportation was limited to horseback. Their job was the same as a county reorder and miners state their claim taking their info to the district recorder. The recorder would routinely transfer his data to the main county recorder, which in this case was Austin, a half day to 3/4 day horse ride north. Once centralized methods of transportation were in place around the west the need for district recorders was no more. Very rare.
