Victorian era funerary helm made to place over knights tomb or for monument. In the 19th century European families wanted to restore their links with ancestors who had been knighted. The helmet is forged andriveted in the 19th century style and shows an elongated crest or peak which is a somewhat Germanic form. The helmet has been outdoors and has a pitted surface which has been black enamel painted long ago. The helmmeasures 20” high x 16” across and 39” around (girth). Weighs almost twenty (20) pounds. A true antique and great decorator but not of the period it represents. Est.; $1,500-$3,000
