Victorian Single Shot Large Game Rifle, by Edward Lodge, London, NVSN, 15 bore (.677), 28'' octagonal barrel, African game engraved lockplate and triggerguard, banknote engraved hammer, upper tang and tang of buttplate; coarse checkered fine walnut halfstock, with brass-tipped ebony ramrod. Sideplate features lions and tigers, with a bear on upper tang. Triggerguard is additionally adorned with a stalking tiger. Forward portion of triggerguard with pineapple type finial. Three-leaf rear sight and thick blade steel front sight. Condition is near fine. Brown Damascus barrel with witness marks behind rear sight and light even high edgewear. Blue dolphin-head hammer retains approx. 75% blue. Case hardened lockplate has turned a silvery gray, with evidence of its original colors beneath hammer. One leaf of rear sight is missing just to the left of the sighting notch. Stock shows moderate flattening, much more pronounced on the right side. Right side of stock has darkened possibly from being near a campfire, but detracts little. Upper portion of wrist has been neatly plugged or repaired. Action is good, bore is very good and should clean somewhat. Est.: $1,500-$2,500. (Antique)
