<td width="100%">
The Victorian's were very fond of designs from ancient history, which in turn encouraged many revivals of early jewelry. The height of the Etruscan Revival period was around the mid to late 1800's This is a beautifully ornate and highly detailed Victorian Etruscan gold filled photo locket measuring 2" high by 1-1/4" wide, not including the bale. High relief repousse at the centre in an elongated step design, surrounded by elaborate scroll work. The inside is beautifully chased, as is the reverse with a lovely floral arrangement at each side, top and bottom and at the centre a blank cartuche for the placement of initials. Closes firmly and shows in excellent vintage condition. A wonderful example of elaborate Victorian design and workmanship. Etruscan jewelry has intricate and beautiful designs; most is made of gold. The Etruscans employed a lot of delicate granulation (n which tiny beads of gold are soldered to the surface to form a pattern) and openwork filigree (in which filigree patterns are not applied over sheet metal). The Etruscans lived in Northern Italy for hundreds of years beginning in the late 8th century B.C.
