This silver metal and glass table warmer is a lovely enigma! With a telescoping shell shape, it hides the pearl of an enclosed blown glass insert. Because this has been confirmed NOT to be an egg coddler, we have determined that it must be a Victorian tableware piece which serves as some sort of food warmer, perhaps for butter.

First of all, I can confirm antique handblown glass because the insert has both a straw mark and bubbles in the glass. However, beyond a smudge on the bottom, there is no silver hallmark, and the silver metal has not tarnished. It perhaps is platinum, a lightweight, silver-appearing metal which serves the same attractive aesthetic purpose. Platinum itself is valuable. I can confirm an English design due to the lion's head impresses which mark the top of each of the three (3) legs.

This piece measures 5 inches in diameter, including the crests on the tops of the legs and 5 inches high.

This is a unique and valuable piece in excellent condition!
