This fabulous antique, ebonized and newly upholstered chair is believed to date from circa 1870-1880 or possibly earlier. Possibly English in origin. Features elements of Easthetic Movement style, including the ebonized finish, spaced ball turnings of the legs, rectangular back, and organic scrolled designs of the crestrail. Measures 35 7/8" high by 17" wide by 15 1/2" high. Features new padding and upholstery in neutral color with black geometric pattern. Upholstery is clean and there are no stains. Backrail/backfeet have a consistent width, and the rake is a symetrical smooth shape as seen on pieces from the 1870s-80s. Pierced crestrail has elaborate scrolling carved designs, and fine bobbins decorate the pierced slat. Lion heads decorate the top of the back rails. Seatrail features a carved "C" scroll design, and the underframing is a box stretcher. This item is currently in storage in Bronx NY 10452.
