Pioneering Hungarian-born French artist (1906–1997) generally regarded as the founder of the short-lived 'op art' movement. Printed circular issued by the Union des Arts Plastiques, one page, 8.25 x 10.5, circa March 1955, addressing artists, painters, sculptors, and engravers, signed at the bottom in black ink, "Vasarely." Circular of appeal to “public authorities to draw their attention to the grave danger that the lack of workshops makes run to the French art…It is unjustifiable that Paris, capital of the Arts, make as little of case of a profession which has made its glory…and which continues to ensure the reputation of France in the whole world.” In very good condition, with central vertical and horizontal folds, overall toning, and several edge tears.
