Victor T. Price (fl. 1920s-1940s) - SET OF 12 ILLUSTRATED POSTCARDS AND ONE WATERCOLOUR FROM 1920s-30s

illustrated postcards; (12); watercolour; (1); (all unframed)
variously signed, inscribed and dated
9 by 14cm., 3.5 by 5.5in.

Comic watercolour postcards with drawings of humorous caricatures of animals. All creatively executed on post-marked used postcards, most of which are addressed to his wife in Dublin, with a Watercolour.
A delightful collection lovingly created by the artist - on one side of each card is a handwritten message in pen or pencil to his wife, with one card for his daughter. On the other side of each there are hand-coloured sketches. Each card is fully covered on one side with a superb watercolour - in most instances the image is a humorous caricature of a dog. For the most part the written side of the cards refer to his journeys and experiences in his travels around Ireland from places such as Ballina, Belfast, Limerick & Roscommon. The 12 cards span a period of 15 years between 1923 & 1938. The earlier cards are addressed to 3, Crosthwaite Park West, Kingstown (now Dun Laoghaire) & the later ones to addresses at Belgrave Square, Monkstown & Arva, Glenageary, Co. Dublin. Also with the cards is a watercolour on board of a thatched cottage in the country, signed and dated 1932 by the artist (9 by 6 ins.) The artist, (who it appears was a friend of Percy French worked as a land valuer for the Valuation office in Dublin. He travelled all over the county for his work and sketched as he travelled. He exhibited with the Watercolour Society of Ireland (WCSI) between 1928- 39, mostly landscapes - Cavan, Donegal, Wexford etc. etc. In a 1928 catalogue of the society his watercolours are priced at 2 guineas each. He was it seems also a member of the Dublin Sketching Club.
