French composer (1822–1884) who won the Prix de Rome in 1844. Exceptional presentation autograph musical manuscript, four pages on two adjoining 9 x 11.25 musically-lined sheets. Titled at the top, “Basse donnée. Concours de 1840. 1er prix,” Masse pens 100 detailed bars of music, signing at the conclusion, “Victor Massé—a son ami E. Batiste.” In fine condition, with light scattered soiling.
