Victim of Boston Tea Party. Group of three documents of John Rowe, owner of the tea that was thrown into Boston harbor in 1773. Rowe writes an A.L.S., Boston, Dec. 17, 1764, to Thomas Newton, N.Y., 2 pp., explaining the shipment he has just made to him of "600 Quentails of fish" on board the schooner Swallow to Madeira. Rowe gives assurances to Newton that the "Captain is a good man." Integral address-leaf, ink "10.8" marking. The invoice and bill of lading, both Dec. 17, 1764, accompanying the letter. All very fine. With A.L.S. from M. Watson, Dec. 17 (no year), to J. Watson, about insurance claims for goods shipped on the "brigg Columbus," a portent of the trouble ahead for Rowe. The first Rowe letter we have handled.
