New York: Bangs, May 21-25, 1888. 8vo, original printed wraps. (2), 153, (1) pages; 2454 lots. Wraps worn and chipped; very good. The first Vicksburg sale, the property of George Marion Klein. "No collection surpassing this has appeared since the famous Mickley sale of 1857 [sic]," states the title page. Notable American lots include the Davis Class III 1804 dollar, two Willow Tree shillings, a set of six Seasons Medals (three silver and copper), and uncirculated 1793 chain, wreath and Liberty Cap cents. In foreign coins, the sale includes excellent crown/thaler-size pieces (as well as multiples), British Commonwealth and Civil War-era coins, Napoleonic medals, and silver coins of Brunswick. Woodward was assisted by Ed Frossard, erstwhile nemesis, in the cataloguing of this sale. In the Fall 1998 issue of The Asylum, Klein's great-grandson J.H. McInnis published a brief biographical statement of the collector, who lived till 1923.
