Austrian-born Jewish writer (1888–1960) best known for her 1929 work, People at a Hotel, which was made into the Academy Award–winning film Grand Hotel, starring Greta Garbo. DS one page, 8.5 x 11, June 12, 1934. Agreement between Baum and Samuel Goldwyn Inc. stating that the studio will pay Baum’s secretary’s salary of $35.00 per week while Baum is under contract; the secretary will remain Baum’s employee, not the studio’s. Signed at the conclusion by Baum and countersigned by a studio executive. In fine condition, with a rusty paperclip impression to top edge. Baum wrote more than 50 novels throughout her career, several of which were adapted into motion pictures. A rare document from the woman considered by many to be one of the first modern best-selling authors—only the third Baum we have offered.
