Very rare northern European snaphance pistol circa 1680 to 1720s from the area of Finland, Norway or Russia. The pistol measures 18” overall with 9” barrel of approximately .41 caliber smooth. The pistol is simply stocked with sliding patch boxand hammered copper trigger guard. There is an inverted heart right behind the molding on the rear of ramrod channel. The lock and barrel show a dark patina and some scattered light to moderate erosion and pinprick pitting with no cleaning inmodern times. The barrel is optimistically mounted with a V notch rear sight and post front sight. The stock shows some minor losses and normal aging but is at least good overall with a hand carved period ramrod included. The action is not quiteworking but parts are complete. A very rare example of an early European arm of which several have been identified as Norwegian or Russian. Est.: $1500-$3000+
