Very rare 17th century transitional rapier with pierced heart-shaped hilt and folding knuckle guard. The sword measures approximately 40” overall with 33 ½” blade. The sword is in very good quality and the piercing is well-done and high quality. The blade shows a cipher in the groove on both sides and blade makers marks. The blade shows some light to slightly heavy scattered erosion and surface pitting and has been reduced a couple of inches. The hilt is also in good to very good condition and the grip shows a proper style wrap. The heart-shaped guard is unusual but the folding knuckle guard is rare in this era which we would date about 1660 to 1690. Ex Joe Kindig collection. Est.: $3,250-$6,500.
