Very Rare ''a''-Suffix Bolo C96 Mauser Semi-Automatic Pistol, #89785a, 7.63mm, 4'' barrel, blue finish, straw small parts, 22-groove walnut Bolo grips, rear sight calibrated to 50-1000 meters. Standard markings on top of chamber, as well as in center of right rear frame panel, with German definitive crown-''U'' proofmarks. Typically the ''a'' suffix was only found on early 9mm export pistols with standard Broomhandle grips. This pistol, and one other, are the only variations known so marked in 7.63mm with Bolo grips. This lower-case ''a'' is identical to the font and depth of other known 9mm models. It is also stamped thru the finish, as is the case on the other pistols leading one to suppose that possibly only non-standard C96s, whether they be in 9mm or with Bolo grips, were struck with the lower-case ''a''. Condition is excellent retaining approx. 98%+ original factory blue with light wear at muzzle, light micro-scratching to flat side, and some thinning in stock attachment area; additional thinning to right side of upper frame just forward of closing spring abutment; abutment shows light thinning to its fire blue surface. Grips are crisp and show little wear. Action is tight, bore is mirror bright. A scarce Mauser pistol of which this and only one other are known. Est.: $3,000-$4,000. (C&R)
