Very Rare, Second Type, C.B. Allen Cochran Patent Revolving Turret Rifle
Produced in the late 1930s by C.B. Allen of Springfield, Massachusetts in the late 1830s. Blade front and elevator notch rear sights, with the lower flats of the barrel marked "AAB" and "141" on the left flat. The top strap is roll-stamped: "COCHRAN'S/MANY/CHAMBERED/&/NON-RECOIL/RIFLE" behind the top strap hinge and is stamped with an eagle over "C.B. ALLEN/SPRINGFIELD/MASS." at the rear of the top strap, and is hinged to swing up, allowing access to the nine chamber turret. Smooth straight grip stock, with a wood ramrod, silver inscription oval on the wrist, and a German Silver buttplate. With a copy of the Portland Advertiser (Portland, Maine) dated 9 December 1836, which includes an article on military trials performed on the rifle.

Condition: Very good, with a smooth dark brown patina on the barrel and the frame, turret and hammer showing a mottled, dark gray patina with patches of age discoloration. Mild pitting, strongest on the underside of the turret. All visible serial numbers match. Stock is very good, with most of the original varnish and light to moderate handling wear. The German silver is in very good condition. This is a solid original example of a rare Second Type Cochran Patent Revolving Turret rifle in very good condition.
